The Digital Classroom
The purpose of this website is to examine the reasons why primary schools in the United States are having difficulty incorporating digital technology into the classroom, and how this problem can be overcome. Using articles and research that criticize the inefficient way in which "new media" is being used in the classroom, this website seeks to develop practical ideas for educators to more efficiently utilize the potential of digital technology, while considering critical factors such as instructor skill level and limited financial resources.
In the 40 years since the development of media education in the United States, much has changed about the world and the ways in which people communicate information and ideas. The global swing towards digital mediums has affected the way 21st century life is conducted on almost all social and economic fronts. From online banking and digital record keeping to text messaging and online video calls, communication has undergone a dramatic digital convergence. So why haven't our classrooms been able to keep up?
There have been many criticisms of the current state of media education programs in the United States, but has actually been done to integrate "new" (digital) technologies into curriculums. This website identifies the reasons why U.S. primary schools have been unable to successfully incorporate and utilize digital mediums in the classroom setting, and propose viable solutions that adequately address the issue.
