ASIMO, or Advanced Step in Innovative MObility is a humanoid robot created by the Honda Technology Research Institute Company. ASIMO is the latest, most advanced robot in a line of 11 models that date back to 1986 when Honda began working with robotics.

ASIMO units stand at 3 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 114 pounds and can run at speeds of up to 4.3 miles per hour. There are currently over 100 units in existence, each one costing about $1 million to manufacture.

There have been four iterations of the ASIMO robot. The orginal ASIMO, the intelligent ASIMO, the next-gen ASIMO, and the new ASIMO. The ASIMO line is designed to not only replicate human motion, but to interact with humans as well.

All ASIMO robots utilize Honda's recognition technology which includes:
