Internet Piracy

The opening title of an American: 'Piracy. It's a crime.'

Copyright infringement and the violation of intellectual property rights has become a huge issue with the advent of the internet and digital copying. The mass distribution which the internet offers quickly, inexpensively, and perfect replication has made it difficult to prevent unauthorized distribution. The music, movie, and software industries are estimated to have lost millions of dollars a year from unauthorized copying and use of their products. This problem will only get worse as internet connections and personal computer processing power get faster. These industries keep developing encryption encoding in an attempt to protect their product, but it is only a short matter of time before the encoding is cracked. Companies, artists, and individuals will all need to cope with this unfortunate reality and figure out how to keep generating revenue from their creations despite the unauthorized copying and distribution. There will also be the issue of internet related crime. Personal identity theft has skyrocketed in recent years, with much of it facilitated by the internet. Criminals can either steal personal information which people have on the internet. Keeping personal information secure will become even more important in the future to prevent unauthorized use of your indentity.
