In class we watched a video of a monkey controlling a robotics arm, using the arm to feed itself banana. I found a news article about a robot that was being controlled by a monkey's brain, and walking. The project was initiated in order to try and develop prosthetics that could be controlled by persons with disabilities
The "155-centimetre-tall humanoid, with a friendly-looking face including bulging black eyes, who walked via signals coming into its legs through wires" is housed in a laboratory in Kyoto, Japan. The monkey's brain activity while walking on a treadmill was captured on location in North Carolina at Duke University. The signal was then transmitted via the internet from North Carolina to Japan, to make the robot move in real time.
"'We can say that we have made another big step to the realization of a neural prosthetic device that could one day restore lower limb motor functions for paralyzed patients,' the statement said."
