Fears About Technology

Painting by Bosch featuring a dystopia

This website explores various reactions to the percieved dystopia of technology that have been constructed artistically. It looks at a comic, a novel, a movie and a painting. In each piece, the creator expresses a fear or warning about technology and the way it can possibly take over our lives.

It is interesting that many artists and creative people express negative view points about the future or about the current state of society and the world. Perhaps the creators of the four pieces being discussed fear that the advancement of technology will inhibit expressive and creative freedoms within society. Perhaps they see technology as a negative force because it is typically associated with a lack of human emotions and creative control: as creative people themselves, they do not want to see these aspects cut out of society.
