Land Warrior Integrated Modular Fighting System

In 1994 the United States Army created the Land Warrior Integrated modular Fighting System which was to improve the gear the soldiers currently wore in combat. The improvements needed to be done in order to protect the solders from the elements, make them more lethal, and improve their awareness when in combat. Everything from clothing to any equipment soldiers needed when engaging in combat was to be modified.
The Land Warrior provides soldiers with a fighting vest that allows them more mobility because if a latch that allows the vest to drop the vest closer to the hips. A GPS system, which uses five satellites to locate a soldier's position, these can be as accurate as 10m when locating a solder. The helmet developed in the Land Warrior project, has a head mounted display, over the soldiers dominate eye, which gives a soldier his/her commands and helps with awareness and positioning. Updating every thirty seconds, the head mounted display shows fellow soldiers positions and displays telegraphic maps. The Land Warrior has been in use in Iraq and since 2007 has been reduced from seventeen pound to ten pounds.
