Future Infantry Soldier Technology

The United Kingdom began doing studies on the way in which soldiers perform with current equipment, and whether or not new equipment would improve communicate , mobility, and better protect soldiers from the elements. The results were obvious so the United Kingdom is developing the Future Infantry Soldier Technology (FIST), which should arrive in 2015 and should provide improvement in all of those areas. Improved communication will come with the new radio systems that allow solders to operate over a line of site to soldiers in the same company. The radios will also reroute when a connection is broken due to interference by a hill or ridge. Another big advance in communication is that soldiers will have a global positioning system which will display maps to help with awareness. The displays will be projected in protective helmets or wrist mounted displays. Soldiers will be more lethal due to the increased vision offered on weapon and in helmets worn during combat. Laser range finders will be an addition to equipment which will give solders more precise distance measurements. Finally, clothing in the FIST will reduce infrared visibility, help control body temperature in rough conditions, and provide more protection in combat. Helmets will have a mount that displays the battle situation and helps distinguish between enemies and fellow troops.
