AW129 Combat

The AW129 is a combat helicopter that was created by Italian manufacturers, specifically for the Italian Army. With the Italian Army only having fifteen AW129, it is not a helicopter that has been mass produced. The sleek frame of the AW129 is made with an aluminum alloy frame, while around fifty percent of the fuselage is made from composite materials. The pilot and the gunman have cockpits in stepped tandem configuration that both entail GPS systems, weapon status/selection, flight data, and various communication tools.

Equipped with auto pilot, the AW129 allows for steady flight while desired targets are fired at. Weapons that make this a deadly combat machine are a 20mm three-barrel cannon with five hundred rounds of ammunition, mounted right under the nose of the AW129, four 81mm rocket launchers that are used for long distance launching, and Mistral Missiles used in air combat. The AW129 has been deployed in Iraq to help with Operation Iraqi Freedom, and has been involved in UN missions that involve Kosovo and Somalia.
