Artificial Intelligence - Background Info

The term "Artificial Intelligence," or AI, is widely attributed to computer scientist John McCarthy, who first defined AI in 1956 as "...the science and engineering of making intelligent machines." The main "goal" in terms of Artificial Intelligence is founded on the claim that the intelligence of human beings should be able to be so precisely described as to be able to be simulated by a machine.

In a simpler sense, AI basically refers to a computer or machine that is able to exhibit a level of intelligence similar to that of a human being. AI has also been defined as "...the study and design of intelligent agents." Intelligent agents refer to a system that is able to actively perceive the environment around it, and is able to make decisions that enhance its chances of success.
