The Singularity has several wide ranging implications; some good, and some not necessarily so. With the coming of the Technological Singularity, there is the potential for several very influential developments to come about with regard to humanity as a whole. Genetic engineering and nanotechnology both have the potential to possible be able to eliminate diseases that plague humanity today. Computing and robotics have the potential to help humans accomplish tasks once thought impossible in a more efficient and safe manner. Lifespans can be extended; health and general quality of life can be improved; technology has the potential to significantly improve humanity.
On the flip-side, the Singularity may have some potentially negative implications as well. For instance, genetic engineering may allow people to create and modify embryos and fetuses prior to birth, thus creating "designer babies." While eliminating disease and extending life are both inherently positive things, a decreased death-rate has the potential to significantly speed up the stripping of Earth's resources to meet the growing demands of an increased population. Many also see the potential of a machine becoming more powerful and more intelligent than a human as a potential threat to humanity. Regardless of what happens during the Technological Singularity, it is simply important to remain cautious and aware so as to not be caught off-guard and destroyed by evil robots...
