The technological singularity is happening. Whether or not people realize it, I feel it can be argued that there is no real specific point at which people can just come out and say "Hey! The Singularity just happened!" On the contrary, I think that technological advances will continually happen, and as our technological ability increases, there will come a point when we unknowingly transition to a point where humanity and technology are one and the same; are fused.
The Singularity comes in three specific areas of advancememnt: Genetics, Robotics, and Nanotechnology. Research and technological advancement in each of these three areas are ongoing. Understanding of the human body coupled with scientific and technological advances will only serve to further the abilities of humanity and push us closer, or farther along, into the Singularity itself.
