"Virtual Worlds Taking Over the Web"
Today we are able to experience virtual worlds in their infancy. We have seen the emergence of virtual world games like World of Warcraft and Eve. Their popularity has exploded among the worlds youth and the number of viewers continues to grow at an exponential rate. Many people argue that the current stage of virtual worlds is similar to that of the dial up connection. Look at the web today. Dial up has all but been replaced, allowing the transfer and use of video, music, and other previously inhibited applications. If this bodes anything for the future of virtual worlds then there is an expansive future indeed.
Many people have envisioned a future where virtual reality replaces the web as we know it. the analog web of today will be replaced not by one giant metaverse but instead by multiple metaverses that will take the place of the major uses of today's web pages. The future virtual worlds could be divided up into the virtual job where we earn a paycheck, a virtual college where we take classes, a virtual world where we chat with family and friends, and a world in which we play games with people from around the world. This world would be highly interactive and would present a much different society than the one we currently experience.
