| This album is a collaborative effort of two of the most prominent lyricists to emerge from underground hip-hop in the early 90's. It is a testament to the pervasive commercial influence that new media has on the creativity and autonomy of the individual. "Thieves in the Night" captures the effects that industrialization and commercialization has on our reality-past, present, and future-by pointing out prevalent contradictions and the irrational way we consume our media. Many of the themes of Black Star's lyrics point to the dichotomy between the archaic ideals of today's institutions (education, government), and the growing need for individuality and autonomy of the modern wo/man. |
