Can you tell the two apart? Hiroshi Ishiguro, a professor of robotics at Osaka University in Japan, has invented an android called geminoid which allows him to be in two places at once. This android's operator can control it from any where, so he could be at home and teach a class at the university without actually being there. With multiple cameras and infrared sensors for lip movement, its life-like movements make it difficult to differentiate the android from the actual person.
Professor Ishiguro said that he developed the geminoid to study human behavior and continue in the advancement of technology. Some teachers already don't go to class but teach from a video. What is next? A father goes on a business trip so he sends his android to his daughter's 5th birthday party? It is always difficult to determine whether advancements will be good or evil. I suppose it is ultimately up to the people who use it, so we better make good choices.
