"The 'Eyes' Have It"

Dr. Jamshid Ghajar explains how the eye tracker works

Dr. Jamshid Ghajar, a neurosurgeon from Weill Cornell, has developed a new technology called the 'eye tracker.' This device was created to assess brain damage. The victim looks into a special high-tech camera which takes several quick photographs of the eye and looks for jitters which represents what the person is paying attention to or focusing on. These jitters are linked to memory problems, and with the help of the 'eye tracker,' Dr. Ghajar can determine what is precisely wrong with the brain at a much faster rate than before.

The U.S. military is looking to invest in the 'eye tracker' in order to make quick diagonses of injured soldiers. Sgt. Major Mike Welsh is one of the many who have benefited from this new invention. After waiting for what seemed like forever for doctors to disgnose his brain injury, the 'eye tracker' was able to determine exactly what the brain was struggling to process. Advancements like this have the possibility to save many lives.
